What happens to unsold cars?
Have you ever went to a dealership and wondered, what happens to vehicles that don’t get sold? Do they sell them for a lower price? Do they not sell them at all? The reality is that when vehicles don’t sell for a while, dealers like Car-Max, Auto Tempest, and many more buy them for a cheaper price and try to make a profit. For example, a 2021 BMW M3 Competition is around $72,000 when you purchase from BMW, but when the car doesn’t sell and other dealers purchase them, they list it for over $80,000. Auto Tempest currently has the same cars listed from $74,000-$85,000. This is how they make a profit. Why would anyone purchase them at a higher price? This is because these dealers can transport the vehicles to places where they are in high demand. Next, we would think that the manufacturer wouldn’t want to crush or destroy the unsold cars because they have the latest technology and are perfectly good, but the vehicles that are over 2 years old and unsold, unfortunately, get crushed and/or the parts to get recycled. In conclusion, unsold cars can be a great deal to buy from different dealers if the transport is needed but if you can pick up the car or get it delivered, buying it new from the manufacturer would be the right move.
